All About Life TV Ads
We had Karl Faase from Gymea Baptist Church in NSW speak at Synod today. He was presenting the “All About Life” TV advertising campaign that’s been developed and used in South Australia with cooperation between the churches and Christian Television Australia. There are three ads - aimed at ‘emerging adults’, new parents, and ‘midlife’ adults. The tagline is “I’m not religious, but a lot of what Jesus says makes sense to me”. They’re well researched and produced for some sectors of the Australian market. They’ve really bought in to the values and quests of each of these sectors. One thing they haven’t addressed is the multicultural nature of Australia.
The six values expressed in Karl’s presentation:
1. Assume some belief
2. Don’t treat people as hostile
3. Be clear about what we believe
4. Connect with the community
5. Be able to deliver
6. Think process not instant response
One person commented that the use of the name “Jesus” makes an ad seem corny, no matter what the context. I’m thinking that maybe it’s just that the name “Jesus” is not someone from the 21st century Australian context. I’m not religious but a lot of what John Howard says makes sense. Doesn’t sound corny. Though it doesn’t sound quite right!
The ads are online at www.allaboutlife.com.au/. More information on the campaign is available at Duncan’s TV Ad Land. Churchmarketingsucks.com has a review of the campaign with a number of comments from viewers.
