Divert Daily

From Glen’s sermon tonight at Logan Uniting, his quote from Rick Warren:

“If you want to last over the long haul of ministry, you have to learn how to recharge yourself spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally. Here’s an easy formula to remember: Divert daily, withdraw weekly, abandon annually. Know what relaxes you and what recharges you – and do it.” – Rick Warren

Leadership Church HealthGlen added ‘meditate monthly’. Tying practices to each period of time is a good way of describing the principle of sabbath in action.

In response to a comment below here’s some sources to follow up…

The quote comes from Leadership Journal, Summer 1997, in “Comprehensive Health Plan”, an interview with Rick Warren on leading a healthy church. The whole article is available online if you subscribe to the Christianity Library.

Rod Benson from Morling College used the quote in 2001, in a sermon he gave on handling stress. The sermon text is available online at John Mark Ministries.
