How to subscribe to this blog

RSS Reader ScreenshotApologies to seasoned blog syndicators. Here’s a very brief introduction to subscribing to blog feeds.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. Syndication is also known as as aggregation or news aggregation. In the newspaper world it refers to sending copies of a news article or cartoon to other users. In the blogging world syndication refers to making posts available to people using software.

Syndication software lets you automatically receive updates from sites or emails.

RSSReader is a free Windows-based program for reading RSS and Atom feeds.
MacOSX comes with Safari RSS.

Here’s how it works. Everytime I post something on at Pacific Highlander, a text copy is automatically added to online ‘feeds’:
http://pacifichighlander.blogspot.com/atom.xml
and http://feeds.feedburner.com/PacificHighlander

Right click on one of these links to copy shortcut, then add the link in your feed reader. You’ll then have daily access to everything published here. The only thing is… feeds don’t usually include images and often don’t include the whole post. You’re able to read the first few lines to see if you want to visit Pacific Highlander for the rest.
