Iona Beyond These Shores

Iona Beyond These ShoresI’ve spent the last couple of mornings playing an Iona CD on the way to work. Iona is a band based in the UK, combining Celtic folk and rock with a slight tinge of jazz. The album I’ve been listening to, Beyond These Shores, is inspired by the voyage of Brendan and his colleagues from Britain to Europe. Recorded in 1993 starts with “prayer on the mountain”, moves through “Navigatio” to “Edge of the world”, “View of the Islands”, “Bird of Heaven”. I’ve had the words of “Burning Like Fire” going through my head since hearing it this morning. Link in to Crossrhythms for a short mp3 sample of the song.
