Preparing for Logan Uniting Church

Written on May 5, 2005 – 10:43 am | by Duncan |

Had coffee on Tuesday with colleagues at Logan Uniting Church, in Springwood, halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. Graham Beattie (GB) (fellow mission consultant) and I are preparing for a time as guest preachers later this year. I’ll be working half time there in August and September while Graham Keech (GK), senior pastor is on long service leave. My focus will be on preaching, developing a multimedia ministry and running a course on generational change. Graham Beattie will be there in October/November.

Glen Schweitzer (GS), at present staff person responsible for children/family, cell groups and evangelism, will step up as senior pastor for four months. Excellent plan.

Here’s some of their thinking about who they are and where they’re heading:

Vision: to be an Acts 2 church
A church in which:
People love God deeply and passionately
People love each other deeply and honestly
People laugh and cry and pray and celebrate life together
Pre Christian people are lead to faith in Christ
People experience the transforming power of the Holy Spirit
People’s compassion and generosity reflect God’s incredible love

Purpose: Drawing people into a life transforming relationship with Jesus Christ

Culture:
Friendship - creates the space to be truthful in love
Fun - finding God’s joy in the reality of life
Faith - trusting and growing in Jesus

Target Group: Our primary target group will be 24-45 year olds and their children.
(The 2001 census indicates that the average person in our area is 33 yrs old with children).
