We Can Be Online

The Plan Be campaign, “We Can Be”, is ramping up this week, after months of planning and resource development. Brisbane speaker and writer Dave Andrews was invited to speak on the beatitudes at Greenbelt 2007, a large festival in the UK, having just led a study in the Swiss Alps (sermon on the mount!). The response there was phenomenal. Thousands of people were looking for ways to act out the teaching of Jesus in every day life, in ways that would change attitudes and make the world a better place. And so Dave published “Plan Be” through Authentic Media.

Coming back to Brisbane, the Bible Society in Queensland picked up the book and saw a way to motivate people to read the Bible and put it into practice. Dave, as a member of the Waiters Union Training Team, has been working in collaboration with the Uniting Church in Australia Queensland Synod over the last two years. I became part of the steering team, along with Steve Davies (BSQ) and Dave, working with Capacity Builders to develop a suite of resources for people wanting to engage with the beatitudes.

We ended up with the original book (bright pink cover, 93 pages), a condensed version (red cover), a Good Be Group Guide (for action and reflection), a journal (the Daily Be) providing space for reflection on each of the eight parables seven days a week, a concertina pamphlet with the eight beatitudes, and a DVD with a promotional one minute video and a series of on-the-street interviews.

The We Can Be movement has been online at wecan.be for some time now. But it’s now also online at Facebook with the We Can Be Group. The group is growing quickly, as Dave and I invite many of our online friends to become members.

I’ve just written up the campaign at The Inspiration Room Daily, so impressed I was with the creative quality of the design and film work.
