All-American Rejects Move Along

The All-American Rejects explore grief in a hundred different ways in their music video, Move Along. The music video interprets the title track from The All-American Rejects album released in July 2005. Tyson Ritter opens the video by falling backwards into a swimming pool. Throughout the clip he appears in a number of outfits and scenarios, each presumably linked with the theme of letting go and moving on. Grief in the music video is linked with the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a crashed car, and losing a game of gridiron.

The quick-cut style of the video was inspired by Marlowe Gregorio, who created a video tribute to the song and posted it on YouTube before production on the official video began.

Webb told Studio Daily that he wanted to portray a person in a vast array of different situations having to do the same thing – letting go and moving ahead. As he brought together two ideas: the fast stop-motion editing effect, and the guy falling backwards into the pool, he had in his mind the phrase, “Jump and the net will appear”.

Editor was J.D. Smyth, at Final Cut. Smyth was nominated for Best Editing in a Music Video at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.

Lyrics for Move Along

Move Along Single at Amazon.comGo ahead as you waste your days with thinking
When you fall everyone sins
Another day and you’ve had your fill of sinking
With the life held in your
Hands are shaking cold
These hands are meant to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
Move along

So a day when you’ve lost yourself completely
Could be a night when your life ends
Such a heart that will lead you to deceiving
All the pain held in your
Hands are shaking cold
Your hands are mine to hold

Speak to me, when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
Move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)

When everything is wrong we move along
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
When everything is wrong, we move along
Along, along, along

When all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when your hope is gone
Move along, move along just to make it through
[x3]

(Move along)
(Go on, go on, go on, go on)
Right back what is wrong
We move along
