iPod Flea Marketing Spoof

With all the fuss over the iPod nano it seems inevitable we will end up with the iPod Flea, the world’s smallest mp3 player. Scott Kelby, writer, photographer, and producer of Photoshop training videos, has produced the goods. At a Mac Design conference in June Kelby played his Apple ad spoof.

iPod Flea accessories

The (fictional) iPod Flea comes with every accessory one could think of – so many in fact that it would put your back out to carry them around. It plays one song over and over again – until the battery dies. It can be recharged with a large battery charger. You can get it in four colours – much like tic tacs. The place to buy it? iFlea Markets. We’re directed to the website: www.apple.com/itsnotreal. Click on the image below to play the video.

Credits

At the end of the Gray quicktime version of the spoof is the credit section. The voiceover is provided by voice talent Jack Dennis. Music is “Ride” by Australian band, The Vines, from their album “Winning Days”. The spoof stars Michael and Stephanie Cross, children, I assume, of Dave Cross one of the script writers.

Scott Kelby’s the Editor-in-Chief of Photoshop User Magazine, Mac Design Magazine; Nikon Capture User magazine, and President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

The Script

iPod FleaFirst, we introduced the iPod which single handedly revolutionalized the music industry. Then we invented something even smaller – the iPod mini. In January of 2005 we turned the music industry on its ear with the pocket sized iPod shuffle. And today we’re introducing the smallest mp3 player in history – the iPod flea.

Music breaks in, with Australian post punk band the Vines singing “Ride with me…”

Each iPod flea contains one mp3 encoded song. The flea will play your song over and over again – up to one hour. And if you’d like stop, start, rewind or pause your song you need to purchase the iPod Flea Accessory Kit which includes the 750X iZoom Visual Enlargement device and the iPic compression module made using the Space Age portable resin which is used to activate the iFlea’s microscopic button. If you’d like to play more than one song you’ll need to purchase the iPod Flea Collar multi-song accessory which will let you play up to six different songs.

To order more songs go directly to the iTunes Flea Market. After you’ve built up an extensive collection of songs you can start using the Flea Infestation Kit. The Flea is also available in multiple colors.

To extend the battery life of your Flea you can order the iPod Tic which fits comfortably on any large dirty surface. Both the Flea and the iTic can be activated using the blue tooth wireless remote that’s an excellent solution for your Flea & Tic Control. To top it off you can carry all your iPod Flea accessories in Apple’s handy Flea Bag.

The iPod flea – you’ll be itching to use it.

Lyrics for Ride by The Vines

That’s the start, the middle, and the end
Aren’t you glad the universe pretends
If I don’t get this message home
Once again I’m gonna hate alone

[Chorus]
Ride with me
Ride with me
Ride with me, Oh
Ride with me
Ride with me
Ride with me unless you

Bored aloud ignore the right to be
Invite me down because we like to see
The colours through your loaded mind
F*ck the world and liberate our time

[Chorus]

I’m not waiting a long life
I’m not waiting alone

[Chorus]
