Adidas has produced another All Blacks TV ad for the Rugby World Cup 2007, featuring Dan Carter and his father in the family home in Southbridge, New Zealand. The 30 second ad was filmed while shooting the “All Blacks Of This Earth” sequence.
Carter learned to kick from an early age when his father Neville ploughed the family’s gherkin and potato field at Southbridge, a farming town 53 kilometres south of Christchurch, and erected regulation-sized goalposts for his son to aim at. Carter spent hours in that paddock kicking goals and by the age of 12, he was landing them from 50 metres.

“While shooting the Dan Carter sequence in Southbridge, Dan’s parents invited us to their house a couple of streets away from the ground to have some lemonade and check out the posts and field his Dad had built for Dan to practice on when he was a boy. Because the main crew needed to go on and shoot Richie McCaw in Kurow, Stuart and I decided that we would split up and I should take a couple of the cameramen from the documentary crew and shoot Dan showing us around. We shot the whole spot in 30 minutes, it was totally unscripted apart form a couple of scribbles on a scrap of paper, just Dan and his Dad at home in the backyard, having a kick around, a good laugh and talking about old times”.
