Australian Air Force Train More Than Just Pilots

Australian Defence Force Recruiting is promoting the Air Force brand with an advertising campaign, “Accomplished”, demonstrating that the Air Force trains more than just pilots. TV advertisements demonstrate career opportunities in a variety of trades as well as opportunities for higher education.

The Air Force campaign was developed at George Patterson Y&R by executive creative group head Ben Coulson, art director Ronnie McKee, copywriter James Carter, agency producer Mandy Clems.

Filming was shot by director Michael Goode via The FEDS, Sydney, with executrive producer Michael Cook, producer Paul Quin, and post production producer Karen Watson.

The concept of these commercials was to keep the camera moving and then marry post production 3D and 2D animation to make seamless transitions between action and locations.

The FEDS team shot with a Supertechno Crane and a Steadicam. Their key grip designed and customised a camera rig that enabled them to shoot air to air footage from the Hercules C130 of the Hornet Jet. This entailed rigging the camera on an underslung stabilised libra head. The rig was designed so that they could film from the C130 with the doors open and swing the camera out of the rear of the plane. This achieved air to air shots of the hornet that have never been seen before. The Air Force have documented the camera rig which they will use as the bench mark for any future filming.
