Tourism Australia has released a music video featuring pop star Kylie Minogue, designed to attract British television viewers down under to experience Australia’s “philausophy”. The three-minute TV advert, aired immediately before the Queen’s Christmas message on ITV, takes viewers from Sandringham House, Norfolk, to Sandringham Beach, Melbourne, before heading around Australia with a set of cameos by Australians such as Adam Hills (The Last Leg), Ash Barty (Tennis player) and Shane Warne (Australian Cricket). The music video includes a reprise of Kylie’s role as Charlene Robinson, a mechanic in the popular TV show Neighbours (1986 – 1988). The Tourism Australia Matesong campaign will continue to rum across British TV, digital platforms. social channels, cinemas and out-of-home.

HP Get Real with 12 Days of Real Time

HP 12 Teens a Texting in 12 Days of Real Christmas ad

HP is running 12 Days of Real Time, an advertising and digital engagement campaign aimed at helping families get real over the holiday break. The campaign is being promoted with a modern rendition of the Christmas carol, “The 12 Days of Christmas”. The 12 days of Christmas, this is what I see: 12 teens a texting, eleven dads a liking, ten sisters phoning, nine swipers swiping, social binging, social feeds a feeding, must keep sharing sharing, five percent left! With the Get Real message we now move to Twelve boys a baking, eleven kids a crafting, ten sisters spinning (paper dreidels), eight fellas flying (paper planes), OMG we’re carolling, we learnt oreejami, it’s called origami, five printed things, and a screen-free family! The video comes with the message that the average family spends over 250 hours on screens during the holidays. UK retail chain The Cooperative are promoting their support for local causes in “Not So Silent Night”, a Christmas commercial featuring BTM Brass Band. A woman comes home to her family with a box of fruit mince pies. As she shares them with her husband they are serenaded by the brass band playing a cover of the Pogues hit The Fairytale of New York. BTM is a local band in Wales, its name derived from three villages, Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen.

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is running “Naughty or”, a PSA featuring a reflective Santa Claus rethinking the ways in which children have been categorised. 50% of mental health conditions begin by age 14 – that’s why this year, Santa is delivering a reminder to pay attention to children’s mental health and look out for warning signs. Dressed in his red suit, Santa (Greg Hildreth) sits on top of a snow-clad roof delivering a soliloquy on the ways in which he has been implicated in the stigmatisation of children who are seen to be troublesome.

Amazon.com is running a holiday-themed advertising campaign featuring the 1960s R&B tune “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.” The Everybody Needs Somebody TV commercial, launched in the UK in November, shows families, friends, colleagues and strangers of all backgrounds, ages and walks of life coming together as they sing and dance along with the cheerful Amazon boxes. From a burgeoning new romance on a train and an elderly dancing couple to a tap-dancing shop assistant and toe-tapping business man – Amazon’s singing boxes are at the heart of people coming together on their festive journey. A parcel delivery driver provides continuity throughout the commercial, finally arriving home to be with her family. Reactions to the campaign have been mixed, with the Amazon.com Youtube channel copping flak over the company’s approach to workers conditions.

Chilly’s Bottles in the UK has launched “Gift Responsibly”, a Christmas advert are encouraging shoppers to avoid overthinking it this Christmas. Have you been worrying for months about finding your family the perfect Christmas gift? Consider John, who has gone to great lengths to run a DNA test for his father-in-law, Hugo, seducing Sarah’s grandmother and tracking down Hugo’s half-brother Claude. Don’t be like John. Gift responsibly this Christmas. The film work is complemented by a series of print, outdoor and digital advertisements, contrasting the Chilly bottle gift idea with a cake made out of breast milk, body moisturiser made out of tears, an ASXR mix tape recording of crying in the toilets, a photo album made up of pictures of a sleeping recipient, and a comprehensive set of gifts inspired by a hacked search history.
