Herald Sun Stick it to the Poms

Beating the English at cricket seems to bring a lot of joy to Australians. Perhaps it’s something to do with payback for years of being treated as second class colonials. Maybe it even goes back as far as the early years in which colonies were formed by convicts and those sent to administer their prisons. Whatever the case, Australians are rejoicing this week over defeating the ‘Poms’ five out of five matches in the Ashes cricket series. Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper has been promoting the Ashes cricket series between England and Australia with an online game, “Stick it to the Poms”, along with a collector’s set of fifteen pins, online at www.stickittothepoms.com.

The rules of the game? Score as many runs as possible before being bowled out. Bonus runs are awarded for hitting English players with the ball. Players have the option of playing as Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Justin Langer, Phil Jaques, Damien Martyn, (easy) Adam Gilchrist, Mike Hussey, Michael Clarke, Andrew Symonds, (normal) Glen McGrath, Shane Warne, Jason Gillespie, Stuart McGill, Stuart Clarke, Brett Lee (difficult).

The only way to lose your wicket is to be bowled. Balls heading towards the fielders knock them over.
